Glass & Glazing
Specialist glass and glazing systems engineered for performance — warmer rooms, quieter homes, safer openings and lower bills, year after year.
Fire-resistant Glass
Fire-resistant glass is engineered to hold back flames, smoke and (in some specifications) radiant heat for a specified period — typically 30, 60 or 90 minutes — giving occupants vital extra time to escape and limiting fire spread between rooms. It's a critical specification for stairwells, escape routes, internal partitions and any opening where Building Regulations demand a fire-rated barrier.

Holds Back Flames When It Matters Most
Modern fire-rated glass typically uses an intumescent interlayer between two or more panes — when exposed to heat, the interlayer turns opaque and expands, blocking heat transmission while the toughened outer panes hold the assembly together. Different products provide integrity (E), integrity plus reduced radiation (EW), or full insulation (EI) — we'll spec the right rating for each location.
- Fire ratings from 30 to 90+ minutes
- E, EW or EI classification options
- Blocks flames, smoke & (in EI) heat
- Essential for stairwells & escape routes
- Building Regs Part B compliant
- Tested to BS EN 13501-2

Rated By Time, Not Just Temperature
Fire-resistant glass is primarily rated by how long it holds back flames, smoke and heat — typically 30, 60 or 90 minutes (E30, EI60, EI90 etc). Thermal insulation is a secondary consideration, but combined with a double-glazed system, sensible U-values are still achievable.
How To Verify
Check the fire-resistance classification (e.g. E30, EW60, EI90) against the requirement set by your architect or building control. If the pane is part of an insulated sealed unit, also ask for the system U-value for the complete installation.
