Glass & Glazing

Specialist glass and glazing systems engineered for performance — warmer rooms, quieter homes, safer openings and lower bills, year after year.

The Glass

Double Glazing

Double glazing is the gold standard for residential windows in the UK — two panes of glass separated by an inert gas-filled cavity that dramatically reduces heat loss, blocks external noise and eliminates the cold draughts that plague single-glazed homes. It's the single most cost-effective upgrade you can make to an older property.

The Modern UK Standard
Why It Matters

The Modern UK Standard

Every double-glazed unit we install is A-rated as standard, with warm-edge spacers, argon gas fills and Low-E coatings to maximise thermal performance. Combined with multi-chamber uPVC, thermally broken aluminium or engineered timber frames, our sealed units typically achieve U-values around 1.1–1.4 W/m²K — well below the building regulations minimum.

  • Two panes with argon-filled cavity
  • Warm-edge spacers reduce edge heat loss
  • Low-E coatings reflect heat back into the room
  • A-rated BFRC performance as standard
  • Cuts external noise dramatically
  • 10-year guarantee on the sealed unit

Energy Rating

Strong A-Rated Performance

Modern double glazing achieves U-values around 1.1–1.4 W/m²K — significantly better than single glazing or older 1990s double-glazed units. Anything close to 1.0 represents excellent insulation for a double-glazed sealed unit.

How To Verify

Look for the BFRC energy label and an A or A+ rating on the finished window. Ask your installer to confirm the centre-pane U-value, the gas fill (argon is standard) and the type of warm-edge spacer used.

Double Glazing — common questions

Replacing single glazing with A-rated double glazing typically saves £100–£300 a year on energy bills for a semi-detached home, depending on size and how much of the glazing is upgraded. The exact saving depends on your existing windows and how you heat the home.
Modern sealed units typically last 20–25+ years before the seal degrades and the gas fill starts to escape. Premium units with high-quality warm-edge spacers and butyl seals often last longer. Every unit we fit is backed by a 10-year guarantee.
U-value measures how easily heat escapes through the glazing — the lower the better. Modern double-glazed units typically achieve 1.1–1.5 W/m²K. Anything near 1.0 is excellent for double glazing; triple glazing or Low-E specifications can push it lower still.
Significantly, yes. Cold internal panes (typical of single glazing) cause moisture to condense on the glass. The warm internal surface of double glazing makes condensation far rarer, especially when combined with adequate ventilation.
Yes — we regularly replace individual units, especially when budgets are staged. That said, the comfort difference is felt most when the whole room (or whole house) is upgraded, since a single old window can still bleed heat from an otherwise warm room.
Look for the BFRC (British Fenestration Rating Council) energy label on the finished window — it shows the rating and the centre-pane U-value. We provide BFRC documentation and a FENSA certificate for every install.
